Gara
This is Gara, the big loveable Gargoyle Girl!
Back when Kings and Queens ruled the world's continents, and magic was abundant and flourishing, one Kingdom stood above the rest. Although its name has been forgotten through time, its history is well documented. The King was a paranoid man. He feared his grand stature and prominent power would put a large target on his head. He rarely slept peacefully due to the fear that someone would break into his castle and end his life. In order to give himself the highest protection possible, he hired a witch to put a curse on the Gargoyles in his palace. The Gargoyles were 150 feet tall, and there were dozens of them around the palace. The King did not just ask any old witch to place this curse, but instead asked a young witch who dabbled in dark magic. The witch agreed on the basis that the King would pay her handsomely, and she would never let slip that the King had allowed the use of dark magic inside the castle walls. And so, it was done. The gargoyles, detecting an intruder, would spring to life, and would dispose of said intruder, leaving no trace behind.
This precautionary measure however would not last. Someone had betrayed the King and told everyone about the dark magic usage. The reaction was mild at first, with neighbouring kingdoms simply stopping trade with the King, however it blossomed into a full scale war against the Kingdom. The witch, not wanting the dark magic to be traced back to her, returned to the castle and began removing the dark magic from each gargoyle, resetting them back to their lifeless state. However, she had decided to do this in the worst possible way; while the castle was under siege. Beginning to remove the dark magic on the last gargoyle, a catapult shot through the wall, disrupting the ritual. Instead of undoing the dark magic, it had instead undone the chains of servitude from the Gargoyle. It had granted it free will. The castle would eventually be destroyed, the King would flee never to be seen again, and the fate of the witch was unknown. However after the dust had settled, only one thing was left standing. A lone gargoyle statue…
After thousands of years had passed, the gargoyle woke up. She opened her eyes to ruins reclaimed by nature. Confused and alone, she left the ruins in search of anything. That's when she came across her first human. A lone traveller. She sat with this mysterious stranger, who told Gara of her place of awakening’s history. About the war, and about the aftermath. Before they parted ways, the stranger told Gara to go and explore the world, to enjoy herself. Gara happily thanked the strange traveller and walked off, with the travellers final words being “I never expected my biggest failure to birth my greatest creation”
Gara’s Personality
Gara is a friendly Gargoyle who stands at 150ft tall. She loves interacting with humans and is generally kind and playful. However this playfulness comes at the humans expense. You see, Gara is quite an airhead. She learned that when a human's face is red, it usually means they're happy (she confuses being flustered with being happy), and this has resulted in many of Gara’s friends meeting their end. Gara will sometimes accidentally crush her friends, or will eat them, as this causes them to blush and as such, Gara assumes they must be happy! This misunderstanding is not out of malice or evil intent but merely Gara not understanding the concept of death. She doesn't know that her friends AREN’T sitting safely in her stomach, and she doesn't know that when her friends become red stains beneath her claws that they’re no longer part of this mortal plane.
Gara lacks teeth and her insides are jet black. While her outer skin is made of pure stone, her innards are completely organic. Her eyes are hollow with two yellow dots serving as her pupils. Gara has large wings, however these are for show, and Gara is unable to fly, or even glide. Due to her skin being made of rock, cracks form around her body due to weathering and damage. However, whatever she eats gets converted into magical energy that is used to fix those cracks, so she can in theory infinitely regenerate herself. When Gara sleeps, she will either stand perfectly motionless, or squat down and assume the pose she had when she was a lifeless statue in the castle. Gara is, at heart, a wholesome, innocent being that just wants to wrap her arms around the world and give everyone a biiiig hug to make them happy. She just doesn't understand her own strength and lacks the capability to understand concepts like pain or death.
